Assigning Quests to Teachers

Control which teachers can see and use which Quests.

Teachers can only assign students the Quests you've given them.

Assigning Quests to teachers is how you control what's in each teacher's toolkit - and it's the step that connects your curriculum work to actual lessons.

How it works

  1. Go to the Quest tab on your Owner Dashboard.

  2. Choose the Quest and assign it to one or more teachers.

  3. The Quest appears on each assigned teacher's Quests tab, ready to be assigned to students in their roster.

When a teacher is assigned their first Quest, they automatically receive their welcome email - so Quest assignment doubles as the moment a teacher's account comes alive.

What teachers see

Teachers see only the Quests you assign them - not your full library. A piano teacher sees Piano Quest (and whatever else you give them), keeping their view focused and their student-assignment menu short.

Assignment strategy

  • Match instruments, obviously - but also consider giving every teacher the Performance Quest so recital preparation is available across the studio.

  • Use Draft-state assignments for review. A Quest in Draft can be assigned to teachers but not yet to students - perfect for getting teacher feedback on a new or imported curriculum before it goes live.

  • Multi-instrument teachers simply receive multiple Quests.

How Quests reach students

Owners and Admins don't assign Quests to students directly - there's no button for it on the Owner Dashboard. A Quest reaches a student in three steps, and you control the first one:

  1. You assign the Quest to a teacher. Quest tab, choose the Quest, pick the teacher(s). The Quest now appears on that teacher's Quests tab. If it's the teacher's first Quest, this is also what sends their welcome email.

  2. The teacher adds the student to their roster and assigns the Quest. From the Teacher Dashboard, the teacher clicks Add Student, finds the student by name, and picks the Quest for that instrument - one Quest per instrument. The student must already exist in your studio, which is why importing or adding your people comes first.

  3. The family welcome email goes out automatically. The moment a student is assigned their first Quest, the family receives their welcome email with a password link. Nothing else at the studio has to happen for this.

A few things owners tend to ask at this point:

  • "Can I pick a student's starting Level?" No - there's no starting-level setting anywhere in Musician Quest. Teachers simply begin starting skills at whatever Level fits the student. (Teachers have a short guide on this: Deciding a Student's Starting Level.)

  • "Why can't my teacher assign the Quest I just gave them?" Check the Quest's state. A Draft Quest can be assigned to teachers but not to students - it needs to be Published first.

  • "How do I confirm it happened?" The Student Quests tab lists every student alongside their Quest. If a student is missing there, either they haven't been added to a roster yet or their teacher hasn't assigned the Quest. The Emails tab will show whether the family welcome email went out.

Once the Quest is assigned, the workflow is the teacher's: they add students, assign Quests, and start skills in lessons. Your curriculum work is done - the lesson loop takes over.
